ROBOT RIOT CATEGORIES

Monster-Toy - This category is for artists 10 yrs old and under. Adapt a toy (radio-controlled or not) to do a robot-like task -- something creative and different than the toy's intended use.

Junk-Bot - Use everyday items, surplus junk and taken-apart mechanical stuff to create a machine to do something really interesting.

Robot Dancing - Make your robot or a robot chorus line dance & perform to music of your choice. Pas de Deux, Radio City Rockettes, James Brown… Please bring a CD with your chosen accompaniment, or your own orchestra!

Robot Performance Art - Create a robot that will do a performance art piece. What's that? We haven't the foggiest idea, but we expect to be surprised. Social relevance is welcome but not required.

Stupid Robot Tricks - Stupid Pet Tricks, Stupid Robot Tricks…What truly ridiculous thing can you convince a machine to do?

As well, there will be special non-competitive demonstration categories:

TAB-Sumo-Bot Display activities:

-Robot Mars-rock Return matches on our 4'x 8' Mars surface.
-Robot art making with all robots contributing to 1 large (4'x 8') mural piece
-Robot hockey-soccer 1-on-1 matches on our 4'x 8' playing field
-Robot infrared tag matches, infrared firefighting matches

General Rules for all categories:
1. All robots:
- must operate safely without hazard to audience, operators or officials,
-  cannot use fire, liquids or shock,
-  cannot in any way damage the competition surfaces or any property.

2. A written Artist's Statement must be presented on registration. It should be short but not less than one word. What does your machine do? Why?

3. Performances are generally limited to one minute. If you need more time, please explain while pre-registering.

4. Performances take place on the Science Centre Imperial Oil Auditorium stage.

5. If you need musical accompaniment, please bring your selected music on CD. Write your name on the CD so we can return it.

6. A winner will be named in each of the five competitive categories. One of these winners will be selected as "Best in Show." The "Best in Show" winner will receive a 20 Gb iPod. The other four category winners will each receive a 512Mb iPod Shuffle. Only one prize will be awarded per category.
